our story

California is not one place,
so we did not build one building.

Solano began with a single conversion on a Santa Monica side street. Eight residences, one courtyard, far too many skylights. Fourteen years later the method has not changed.

We buy for orientation before we buy for address. We keep the ceilings tall and the corridors short, and we finish in materials that improve as they age: oak, lime plaster, unlacquered brass, California stone.
